The Israeli media tells us that reaching a comprehensive deal that includes ending the war and returning all the hostages in one phase will take a long time. That is a lie.
The moment Netanyahu is ready to end the war, the deal — which has been on the table for a long time — can be agreed to and implemented.
An agreement with Hamas on the release of Palestinian prisoners must be finalized. The Shin Bet has already prepared the lists and conditions for their release. The army needs a maximum of two weeks to withdraw from Gaza.
As early as tomorrow, Mahmoud Abbas should announce the formation of a Palestinian committee to govern Gaza on a temporary basis, and representatives of the international community who are currently in Israel should be invited to Ramallah to endorse the committee Abbas declares — this would eliminate Netanyahu’s excuse that an Israeli withdrawal leaves Hamas in control of Gaza.
It is possible to include in the deal what Hamas has already agreed to — that it will not govern Gaza after the war. According to Hamas, it is ready to transfer authority to a professional Palestinian body that it will not be part of.
All the hostages can be returned within two weeks, maximum.
